NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT JAMES G. TRAYLOR, son of James W. Traylor of 6368 Peaceful Drive and Martha J. Peatry of Salem, has reported for duty aboard the frigate USS Reasoner based in San Diego.Traylor is a 1990 graduate of Glenvar High School.
\ NAVY SEAMAN DAVID A. DELONG has received a letter of appreciation for professional performance of duties while assigned aboard the dock landing ship USS Tortuga in Little Creek.
He is a 1990 graduate of William Byrd High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS CLIFTON P. ALCORN, son of Clifton P. Alcorn of 1505 Kenwood Blvd., has received the Navy Achievement Medal.
Alcorn was cited for superior performance of duty while serving with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (Light) 34 in Norfolk, where he is a night-shift supervisor and ordnance quality assurance representative.
During Operation Desert Storm, he was directly responsible for the loading of more than 1.7 million pounds of ordnance. He discovered defective rivets on one of the squadron's recently reworked aircraft, and he implemented a new computer program to analyze ordnance and fire-control system trends.
Alcorn is a 1981 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ NAVY CONSTRUCTIONMAN ROBERT G. BROWN, son of Roger G. Brown and Martha J. Brown, both of Vinton, has been sent with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4, based at Port Hueneme, Calif., to Camp Mitchell, Spain, in support of Operation Restore Hope.
Brown's detail provides camp maintenance and security at Camp Mitchell while the resident battalion, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1, is assigned to Somalia.
Brown is a 1988 graduate of Staunton River High School.
