NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS

GEORGE HARVEY has been Harvey elected chairman of the Radford Community Health Foundation. Also elected were RAY HOLT, vice chairman; PRESTON DURRILL, secretary; and FRED NEWHOUSE, treasurer.

Joining the board as directors are: BILL ALDRIDGE and DAN SCHNECK of Christiansburg; BILL BRUBAKER, MARY JANE DUDLEY and JOE SHEFFEY of Dublin; JOSEPH CONDUFF and GINO WILLIAMS of Floyd; MARY ALICE DAVIS, FRAN ROOKER, BARBARA TURK, RONALD WATSON and MARY WYATT of Radford; ERNESTINE FORESMAN and BILL SKELTON of Blacksburg; RANDALL GRAVELY and BARBARA NEFF HUTCHISON of Hillsville; and HARRY NEFF of Galax.

ANDREA L. MORGAN has joined the office of Anderson & Associates Inc. as an administrative assistant to marketing.

VICKI POWELL has been recognized as the Agent of the Year by ERA Townside Inc. of Blacksburg for the third straight year. Powell was the firm's top selling and top listing agent in 1992.

RUSS MACDONALD, property manager at ERA Townside, has been elected president of the Blacksburg Apartment Council for 1993.

Five ERA Townside agents were named Platinum Award winners by the New River Valley Association of Realtors: DAN DODSON, MIKE EGGLESTON, NANCY PHILLIPS, KAY STRATTON and Powell. Each had sales of more than $3 million in 1992.

Five others were Gold Award winners for selling between $2 million and $3 million: JEANNIE CHANG, NANCY CORVIN, WAYNE ELLIOTT, LINDA PHILLIPS and GEORGE POOLE. With between $1.5 million and $2 million in sales, AGNES HELLER and ELOISE TURNER were Silver Award winners. And BEA AKE, CATHERINE KINCAID and SANDRA MARTIN won Bronze Awards with between $1 million and $1.5 million in sales.

New agents at ERA Townside include KAY THOMPSON, one of the two agents recognized as Rookie of the Year in the New River Valley, JOAN RICHARDSON, JEAN SIMMONS, SHIRLEY DORMAN and DAVID KIRKNER. Thompson, Richardson and\ Simmons have worked previously in the area. Dorman and Kirkner have recently gained their real estate licenses.

\ FRED and MARY BURTNER, owners and operators of Rent-a-Wreck of Blacksburg and of Roanoke, have been honored as outstanding members of the Rent-a-Wreck system. Since joining the system in October 1985, their fleet has grown to more than 50 cars, vans and trucks.

\ JACK S. HINSHELWOOD has been promoted to project manager of the engineering division of Olver Inc., a Blacksburg consulting engineering firm and environmental laboratory. Hinshelwood has been with the firm five years. His specialities include solid-waste landfill design, hazardous waste remediation, liner systems and site assessment.

\ JOHNNY D. KINCER has been named project engineer and manager for the CADD/Drafting Division of Olver Inc. Kincer has been with the company three years and worked previously as an engineering technician.

\ BETH L. ARMENTROUT has been appointed Bioassay Lab Manager at Olver Inc. She has been with the company for five years and was the lab supervisor.

\ TAMMI R. BUNN has been promoted to production coordinator for the secretarial staff at Olver Inc.

\ MELISSA K. LOVEDAY has joined Olver Services Inc., a public relations and environmental communications firm, as an administrative assistant.

\ MICHAEL WOHLFORD, a Blacksburg native, has joined the North Charleston, S.C., facility of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc.

\ STEVE DeHART and PAUL NEWMAN were named 1992 Cost Crusaders of the Year and the top Quality Action Request Contributors at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

\ JAMES C. TURK JR., with the Radford law firm Stone, Hamrick, Harrison and Turk, has been board certified in civil trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Twenty-nine lawyers in Virginia have been certified by the board. The requirements for certification include continuing legal education, lawyer and judicial references and a daylong examination on trial techniques, evidence and ethics.
