HUMANE SOCIETY PRESIDENT DIES AT 63

Stanley A. Huffman Jr., president of the Montgomery County Humane Society and a retired educator, died Tuesday at the age of 63.

Before his retirement, Huffman was director of the Learning Resources Center at Virginia Tech, a position he took just after the center was created in 1971.

In 1987, the center was identified as one of seven exemplary programs among doctorate-granting universities in the nation. Huffman won the Association for Educational Communications and Technology Distinguished Award.

At the time, he was the only person to win both that award and the association's Annual Achievement Award.

He was a past president of the Virginia Educational Media Association and the author of a book on instructional media.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.
