OBIT CALHOUN, DALE C.
CALHOUN, Dale C., 84, of Roanoke, and formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died
Tuesday evening, March 30, 1993, in Lewis Gale Hospital after a short illness.
He was a 60-year resident of Charleston, W.Va. and a graduate of V.P.I. with a
master's degree in fuel engineering. He was a registered professional engineer
in both electrical and mechanical engineering in West Virginia. He was retired
from Union Carbide Plant in South Charleston in 1966 as an assistant manager.
He was also retired from service with the State Department in New Delhi, India
in 1971. He was a past state president of the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers. He served 37 years as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of
Charleston, W.Va. He served on the board of directors of Children's Home
Society in West Virginia and the Mountain Laurel Council of the Girl Scouts of
America. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Surviving are his loving
wife of 54 years, Ethel Calhoun, Roanoke; two daughters, Joan Steven, Jane
Smith, both of Charleston, W.Va.; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert
Calhoun, Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Elsie Calhoun, Radford. A memorial
service will be held at Brandon Oaks at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests donations be made to the Brandon Oaks Endowment Fund or the
Habitat for Humanity. Local arrangements are by Oakey's South Chapel.
