RALLY HELPS HOKIES WIN 8TH STRAIGHT
At Richmond, senior first baseman Ken Nonamaker broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning Thursday as Virginia Tech poured it on late and downed Richmond 9-4 for its eighth straight college baseball victory.The Hokies (14-2) added four runs in the ninth, two on a single by J.R. Hawkins. Hawkins and Nonamaker drove in three runs each and Bo Durkac went 4-for-4 with a double, a solo homer and two RBI.
Ron Preston pitched seven innings and earned his third win of the season without a loss. Jamie Patteson picked up his second save. Reliever Henry Ogden (0-1) took the loss for the Spiders (13-6).
The Hokies will play a makeup game today at Western Carolina.

At Radford, Donnie Fields hit a two-out single in the 10th inning to lift Radford to a 12-11 victory over Bristol College.
The Highlanders (10-7) trailed 9-0 after 4 1/2 innings but rallied with three runs in the fifth inning, two in the sixth inning and three runs each in the eighth and ninth innings.
Brian Pardue had a two-run home run in the sixth inning and a solo homer in the eighth. Duane Filchner and Tom Curran added three hits each for Radford. Bristol is 7-12.
Freshman third baseman Jay Johnson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run as James Madison defeated VMI 4-2 at Harrisonburg in a game called after 6 1/2 innings because of rain. Freshman Jeff Hafer earned his first collegiate pitching decision, allowing two hits while striking out three in two innings of work for JMU (7-9). The Keydets (9-16) got two hits each from John Payne, Louie Napoleon and Brian Adams.
