SCHOOL-FUND DISPARITY RULING APPEALED
A coalition of poor school districts on Friday asked the Virginia Supreme Court to find the state's method of financing public education unconstitutional.Lawyer Andrew Miller, a former state attorney general, filed papers asking the court to overturn Richmond Circuit Judge Melvin Hughes's Nov. 20 ruling that the Virginia Constitution does not require substantially equal funding for all public school divisions.
Localities involved in the lawsuit are Petersburg, Radford, South Boston and the counties of Buchanan, Halifax, Pulaski and Russell. - Associated Press
