WIFE CHARGED IN MAN'S DEATH CHRISTMAS EVE
A 45-year-old woman will stand trial in Roanoke County Circuit Court on charges that she killed her husband in a Christmas Eve shooting.Friday, a Roanoke County grand jury indicted Nancy Lee Campbell, 46, on charges of murder and use of a firearm during a felony.
Campbell's husband, Donald, was shot while in the driveway of their Eastland Road home during an argument on Christmas Eve.
Her attorney, Charlie Phillips, called no witnesses at a Feb. 9 preliminary hearing, but suggested that Campbell may have acted in self-defense.
Under questioning by Phillips, police officers testified that they found a sledgehammer near David Campbell's body.
Authorities initially charged Campbell with involuntary manslaughter, but elevated the charge to murder when an autopsy showed that Donald Campbell had been shot in the back.
Nancy Campbell is free on bond pending her trial, which has not been scheduled.
