KIWANIANS SET RECORD STRAIGHT ON BINGO
The recent news regarding the low percentage of bingo profits going to charity in some area games prompts me to set the record clear about bingo operated by the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg.Other than license fees to the town of Christiansburg, and the occasional set of bingo balls, all income from bingo is either returned to a player as winnings or is paid into the Kiwanis Club's service account. We pay no rent, we use our own tent. We pay no salaries. Kiwanians are all volunteers.
The funds raised from the public must, by Kiwanis bylaws and IRS regulations, be spent on programs that benefit the public. Examples of Kiwanis projects include: maintenance and improvements to Kiwanis Park; support of Boy's and Girl's State; and purchase of sandlot sports equipment and uniforms.
We look upon our bingo games as a method to raise funds for our projects, of course. However, we also look on them as an enjoyable activity for both club members and the public.\ Tom Johnson\ Kiwanis Club\ of Christiansburg
