VMI SLUGS GREENSBORO IN BASEBALL
VMI scored three runs in the first inning and six runs in the second on its way to a 12-5 baseball rout over UNC-Greensboro on Saturday at Patchin Field in Lexington.The Keydets (10-16) took an early lead in the first inning when Brian Adams walked, Louie Napoleon doubled and Warren Williams drove them home with a single. Williams scored on a ground out by David Procise.
In the second inning, designated hitter Merlin Ikenberry walked, David Groseclose, Adams and Napoleon singled, Williams walked, and Ryan Glynn hit a bases-clearing double. Glynn scored on a sacrifice fly by John Payne.
The Spartans (13-10) cut the lead to 9-3 in the sixth inning on a three-run homer by Tonka Maynor, but VMI got two of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run shot by Napoleon.

At Blacksburg, George Mason scored seven runs in the fifth inning to overpower Virginia Tech 9-2, snapping in the Hokies' nine-game winning streak.
Tech (15-3) scored its runs in the fourth inning. Dee Dalton of Cave Spring had an RBI single and catcher Josh Herman of Vinton added a sacrifice fly.
Don Anderson went 8 innings for the Patriots (11-5) to earn his third win. He struck out seven while allowing three walks. Hokie starter Scott Crim (2-2) lost his second straight. He pitched four innings, yielding five hits, five earned runs and four walks.
The teams meet again today at 1 p.m. in Fairfax.
