UVA HOLDS SPRING FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGE

Tailbacks Jerrod Washington and Charles Way led all rushers in Virginia's opening spring scrimmage. Washington had 125 yards on 14 carries and a 37-yard touchdown run. Way rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns.

In competition for the Cavaliers quarterback position, B.J. Hawkins completed six of 12 passes for 126 yards, two touchdowns and one interception; Mike Groh connected on six of 12 passes for 76 yards with one touchdown and one interception; and Symmion Willis was 5-of-12 for 75 yards and one touchdown.

Wide receiver Patrick Jeffers led all receivers with 94 yards on three receptions and scored on a 44-yard pass from Tim Sherman. Andrew Dausch had two receptions for 60 yards and scored on a 55-yard pass from Hawkins. Tyrone Davis' only catch of the day was a 50-yard touchdown pass from Groh.

Safety Keith Lyle and linebacker Randy Neal led the defense with 10 tackles.
