MEAL PLANS ARE AMONG THE MOST MISUNDERSTOOD TERMS IN TRAVEL
European Plan (EP), American Plan (AP) and Modified American Plan (MAP) are the standard names for meal plans offered by hotels and resorts. They also are among the most misunderstood terms in travel, according to industry consultants.
Simply put, EP means no meals are included in the room rate. AP means all meals are included. MAP means you get two meals daily. Many resorts with MAP plans allow you to select either lunch or dinner as your second meal.
Another frequently misunderstood travel term is "direct flight," which does not mean a flight that is non-stop but merely that passengers do not change planes enroute to their destination.
