OBIT CHILDERS, VERNON EDSEL

CHILDERS, Vernon Edsel, 74, of Route 8, Rocky Mount, died Saturday afternoon, April 3, 1993, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War II, being awarded the Silver Star. He is survived by his wife, Edith Lorraine Howell Childers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Fred David of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Pat Childers of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Maxine Angle of Rocky Mount, and June Haynes of Roanoke; also surviving are two granddaughters, Sarah and Emily Childers of Rocky Mount; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from Lynch Chapel by the Rev. Fred A. Driver with interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. Monday at Lynch Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
