ATLANTA OLYMPIC OFFICIAL TO SPEAK IN WYTHEVILLE
Shirley Clarke Franklin, an official with the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games, will be the keynote speaker at the 47th annual dinner meeting of the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at the Wytheville Community Center.Tickets are $15. The dinner is being catered by the Wytheville Ramada Inn.
After successfully managing Andrew Young's campaign for mayor of Atlanta, Franklin became the city's first female chief administrative officer in 1982. She had that job for eight years.
In 1990, she was appointed executive officer for operations under a city government reorganization. She became senior vice president for external relations with the Olympics committee in 1991 and president and chief operating officer for the Corporation for Olympic Development in Atlanta in March. . - Southwest bureau
