COMPREHENSIVE PLAN HEARING IN PEARISBURG
The Pearisburg Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Thursday night on the town's comprehensive plan. Members of the community are invited to attend and share their ideas about how the town should be developed through the end of the decade. This week's hearing is the second in a planning process that has involved officials and citizens from the town, consultants from the New River Valley Planning District Commission and students from Virginia Tech.
Students from Tech's College of Architecture helped run the discussion during the first hearing and in preparing an early draft of the plan. They also will assist at Thursday's hearing.
During the first hearing in March, participants identified a variety of concerns. These included preserving the natural environment, improving the relationship between town and county government, developing the local economy, and maintaining public services.
Thursday's hearing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the gym of the old King Johnston Middle School.
