WYTHE'S GREEN ON GROUP A VOLLEYBALL TEAM

George Wythe's Stacey Green is the only Timesland player to make the All-Group A state volleyball team as picked by a panel of coaches.

Green is joined by second team picks Eve Kendall (George Wythe) and Bobbie Jo Wright (Glenvar) as the only Timesland players honored on the two teams.

Group A champion Stuarts Draft placed Hannah Fairchilds and Dana Pauly on the first team and Tressee Fitzgerald on the second team.

Radford University gymnast Christie Epperly, a sophomore from Roanoke, placed 21st in the all-around competition at the 1993 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Sunday.

Georgia won the team title with a 197.50 score and advanced to the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs' Agina Simpkins won the all-around individual championship with a score of 39.175.

Epperly scored 37.425 points, the most ever by a Highlanders gymnast in the Southeast Region meet. She was fourth among the at-large competitors. Epperly, who graduated from Cave Spring High Schol, scored a 9.7 in tying for 11th in the vault; her score was the best among the at-large entrants. She scored a 9.675 on the floor exercise to tie for 19th, had a 9.05 on the balance beam for 45th place and added a 9.0 on the uneven bars for 43rd place.

Nine-year-old Preston Hall of Blacksburg placed second in the 62-pound weight division of the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Southern Region Tournament in Salisbury, Md., on Sunday. Hall, who won the district tournament in Manassas, will advance to the national tournament on April 17-18 at Bloomsburg (Penn.) University. Hall, a third-grader at Day Spring Christian Academy, has won six tournaments.
