Marky Mark avoided a criminal trial Monday in Boston by settling a civil lawsuit filed by a man who says the rap singer and model broke his jaw.An assistant district attorney asked that assault charges be dismissed because Mark's accuser, Robert D. Crehan, was satisfied with the settlement.
Marky Mark, the stage name for Mark Wahlberg, had been scheduled to face trial. He arrived in court, where fans were waiting, but Crehan's attorney announced the settlement before the proceedings began.
Crehan claimed that Wahlberg kicked him while another man held him down Aug. 30. The other man, Derek McCall, also was charged, but the case against him was dismissed as part of the settlement. Crehan's attorney declined to specify the size of the settlement.
Wahlberg made no comment. His attorney, Oliver Mitchell, said the fight began when a person with Crehan directed a racial slur at McCall, who is black.
