MANASSAS PAIR CLAIMS $5.2 MILLION JACKPOT
Two Manassas friends claimed the first installment of a $5.2 million Lotto jackpot Monday, the Virginia Lottery said.Pauline Ralston and Richard Smith, both 42, said they did not realize they held the winning ticket in the Wednesday drawing until Saturday, when they visited the Weis Market in Manassas where they bought the ticket.
The store displayed a large banner that said a jackpot-winning ticket was sold there.
"I told Richard, `Wouldn't it be funny if it's our ticket,' " Ralston said. "When the clerk ran the ticket through the terminal she started shaking and said, `Congratulations, you're the winner.' "
Their first payment was $177,303 after taxes. The pair will receive 19 annual checks of $178,160 after taxes. - Associated Press
