WRITING CONTEST SEEKS ENTRIES FROM ALL AGES
The 17th annual Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest is seeking entries until May 31 to compete for prizes from $10 to $100.It includes categories for entries by students in grades one-four, five-eight and nine-12, as well as for adults, including college students. Winners will be notified during the summer and a public awards program will be held Sept. 11.
Anderson was a prominent American writer during the first half of the century. He lived in Marion and Troutdale from 1925 until his death in 1941 and owned the Smyth County News and Marion Democrat newspapers.
The Sherwood Anderson Association Inc. sponsors the contest, and several past winners have advanced to professional publication.
