HEAD START NOW RECRUITING

New River Community Action Head Start has begun recruiting children for the 1993-94.

Head Start is a federally funded program for 3- and 4-year-olds and their families, helping to bring about success later in the public schools.

Community Action offers center-based and home-based programs.

The center-based program runs Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Children are picked up and taken to to the Head Start classroom by van. They eat breakfast and lunch at the center. And they have the opportunity to choose from activities which promote a positive self-image and encourage learning through play.

The home-based program is a partnership between home visitors and parents. They meet each week for 1 1/2-2 hours to plan activities for the child that promote natural and fun learning. Then they take time during the week to work with the child.
