SOURCES SAY CUOMO WITHDRAWS NAME

Gov. Mario Cuomo, believed to be President Clinton's top choice for the Supreme Court, has withdrawn his name from consideration, officials familiar with the situation said Tuesday.

Cuomo told Clinton he did not want the job in a phone conversation Thursday evening while Clinton was flying to Portland, Ore., on Air Force One, the sources told Newsday. Cuomo did not return phone calls Tuesday and his office declined to comment on the subject.
