CLARIFICATION WRONGS OF SPRING
IN AN editorial Saturday, we disputed the March 20 date offered by scientists as the first day of spring. Lions of commentary, we declared this past weekend - with daylight time leaping forward an hour; with the Jewish Passover about to start and Holy Week beginning for most Christians; and, yes, with the college-basketball season about to end and major-league baseball about to return - the genuine start of spring.Oh, oh. Mistake. Wet and cold slapped our faces. Monday night it was freezing in Southwestern Virginia. In some places it snowed.
We regret the error. We also regret the weather, though it seems to be improving rapidly. Like lambs now, we continue to look forward - without prejudice or prediction - to spring. To real spring. To overdue spring.
