Tina Turner is on the cover of Vanity Fair's May issue, recounting her darkest days of life on the road with Ike Turner, her long-since-dumped ex-husband. The rock queen, 54, says that in their 18 years together her ex beat her regularly, attacks that she says blackened her eyes and sent blood "whooshing into my mouth."

Their turbulent years together - before she left him in 1967 and forged a hit solo career - will be turned into a movie, "What's Love Got to Do With It?" The flick is due in June, just in time for Tina's summer concert tour.

"El Rey," King Juan Carlos' book about dictator Francisco Franco and his own role in Spain's transition to democracy, has sold nearly a quarter-million copies in its first month, the publisher said Monday.

"It's rare to sell so many copies so quickly," said Laura Alvarez, of the Barcelona publisher Plaza and Janes Editores. The book was published in Spanish, Dutch and French.

Juan Carlos, 55, came to power two days after Franco died on Nov. 20, 1975.
