DESHAZO SHINES IN TECH SCRIMMAGE

Maurice DeShazo completed six of 10 passes for 86 yards and had a 34-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Still in Virginia Tech's football scrimmage Wednesday.

Redshirt freshman fullback Brian Edmonds rushed eight times for 78 yards.

"Brian's having an exceptional spring and is a very promising football player for us," coach Frank Beamer said.

Fullback Joe Swarm scored twice in goal-line situations. P.J. Preston, who switched from linebacker to free safety, had four tackles and an interception.

Beamer said he was pleased with the defensive performance. "A lot of different players stepped forward in this scrimmage," he said.
