SUNRISE SERVICES

Sunrise services on Easter Sunday morning are among the most popular of observances in the Roanoke Valley. Following are some of the services that are ecumenically sponsored.

\ A HIGHLAND PARK SERVICE, which is new for inner-city Roanoke residents, will begin at 7. Southwest area congregations - Highland Park, Trinity and West End United Methodist parishes, Calvary Baptist, Second Presbyterian and Central Church of the Brethren - are sponsoring the service.

The Rev. Dr. Taylor Todd, Presbyterian, will speak. Worship will be led by the Rev. Dennis Herman, Baptist. A combined choir will sing.

In case of rain, the service will held at Highland Park United Methodist on nearby Ferdinand Avenue. Worshipers are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets; dress is casual.

\ A SOUTH BOTETOURT COUNTY SERVICE will begin at 6:30 in Old Dominion Cemetery on U.S. Alternate 220.

\ A PEAKS OF OTTER SERVICE, at the visitors' center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, begins at 7. The Rev. W.W. Simpson is the speaker.

\ HERSHBERGER ROAD worshipers can attend a service at 6:45 on the lawn of Connelly Memorial Baptist Church at Westside Boulevard. Rain site is indoors.

\ THE REV. NATHAN LEIGH will speak during a Cove Road service in Cedar Lawn Cemetery at 6:30. Sponsored for the 56th year by the Roanoke Christian Endeavor Union, the service will be in Westminster Presbyterian Church in America if it rains.

\ HOLLINS worship will begin at 7 at Summerdean Church of the Brethren, 6604 Plantation Road. Breakfast follows.

\ A WILLIAMSON ROAD PROGRAM will be at Huntington Court United Methodist Church, Williamson at Huntington Boulevard. A breakfast, sponsored by the United Methodist Men, will be held after the service. Breakfast will cost $3.

\ OAK GROVE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN will hold a service on the lawn of the Allstate Insurance building on Virginia 419 at 6:30.

\ MILL MOUNTAIN WORSHIP, on the lower lookout, will be sponsored by South Roanoke United Methodist Church starting at 6:30. A pancake breakfast at the church on South Jefferson Street will follow.

\ SALEM ecumenical service will begin at 7 in Sherwood Memorial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike. The Rev. James Parke, Roman Catholic, will speak, the First United Methodist singers will provide music. Rain site is Salem Wesleyan Church, 424 Chamberlain Lane.

\ JERUSALEM BAPTIST, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W., offers a service at 6 with the Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor, the speaker, and music by the Men's Chorus.
