MS WALK A HUGE SUCCESS DESPITE THE RAIN

Dear Neighbors:

Despite torrential rain, the MS Walk for Multiple Sclerosis in Roanoke was a huge success. 143 brave souls walked a course that started and ended at Patrick Henry High School. In all, almost $16,000 in cash and pledges was raised to help fight this major neurological disease of young adults, for which there is no known cause or cure.

Major thanks are due to our volunteers, who sat in the rain at rest stops, registered walkers, guided them along the route, and helped clean up the mess afterwards. Thanks in particular go to the Roanoke Amateur Radio Club, K92 Radio, Little Caesars Pizza, Subway, Quality Coffee and countless others who also came in to lend a helping hand.

Money raised in Roanoke will go to provide support services to people in this area who live with MS on a daily basis - including self-help groups, training for peer counselors, group counseling, information and referral, a national tele conference on Clinical Trials, professional and family symposiums and medical equipment - as well as to fund research into the cause, cure and treatment of this disease.

Again, our thanks to all the walkers and volunteers who helped to make this first-time event a resounding success. The generous support of the Roanoke community is greatly appreciated by all of us who work and hope for an end to this terrible disease.\ Michelle H. Bradley MS Walk Coordinator
