RELIGION BRIEFS

THE FESTIVAL OF ST. MARK, for whom Fincastle's Episcopal church was named, will be observed there April 26 at 8 p.m. with an ecumenical service of Holy Eucharist. Bishop A. Heath Light will preach, and choir with children from Presbyterian and Episcopal congregations will sing. A reception will be held after the service.

\ FIRST CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN is preparing to celebrate its centennial. Originally housed where Loudon Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) now worships, the congregation moved to 2001 Carroll Ave. N.W. nearly 40 years ago.

On May 23 at 3 p.m., members of the Brethren church will join the Loudon Avenue members for a tour and reception at Loudon Avenue, 730 Loudon Ave. N.W.

\ "THE WITNESS," an Easter cantata featuring the Rev. Michael Wilshire in the role of John, will be presented Sunday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Church, 6930 Wood Haven Road.

\ THE DRAMA "What Really Happened the Night He Was Betrayed?" will be presented Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church In America, 2216 Peters Creek Road N.W. A nursery will be provided.

\ KNOWLEDGE BRINGS POWER MINISTRIES, a Richmond-based program for spiritual growth, has scheduled a conference April 15-17 at Valley Word Ministries, 1928 Loch Haven Road.

Steve and Brenda Parson of Richmond will be leaders for the event, which begins Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and continues through Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

\ A JOINT GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE with the Jerusalem and Morning Star Baptist congregations is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at Morning Star church, 1513 Rorer Ave. S.W. The Rev. J. Eugene Young and the choir of Jerusalem church will lead worship. Communion will be served.

\ JERUSALEM BAPTIST CHURCH, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W., will have the Magic Star Chorus, the J. Eugene Young Mass Choir and the Senior Choir presenting special music at the Easter morning service at 11. That afternoon at 4, a dramatization of the Easter story will be featured at a Deacon and Deaconess Board program.

\ AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 515 Third St. S.W., Roanoke, Charles Krause has been ordained to the Gospel ministry. He has been on the staff since 1977 as director of the church's orchestra and assistant in musical productions. Krause is one of nine men who direct specific ministries for the congregation.
