CRAIG BOARD ADOPTS SCHOOL CALENDAR FOR 1993-94 TERM
The Craig County School Board has adopted its school calendar for the 1993-94 term.Schools will open Sept. 7, and graduation will be June 11, 1994.
Superintendent Dallas Helems said three of the five snow days built into the calendar are included in the Easter break, between April 1 and 8. If those snow days are needed, he said, the holiday will be cut short.
The two other snow days are set in conjunction with teacher workdays in January and March. The workdays are set for Fridays but will be moved to Saturdays if they are needed to make up time lost to snow, Helems said.
The other two major holidays of the school year are Thanksgiving and Christmas - Nov. 25 and 26, and Dec. 22 through 31.
The calendar, in accordance with state law, provides for 180 days of class time.
Helems said he expects an enrollment of about 670 students. Enrollment in the current term is 668.
The School Board also was told that kindergarten registration for the 1993-94 school year will be April 20 from 10 a.m. until noon at McCleary Elementary School. The kindergarten program is for children who are 5 years old as of Sept. 30.
On a related matter, the board authorized the purchase of two double-wide mobile units to provide four classrooms for sixth- and seventh-graders. The trailers, which will cost $77,500, will help relieve crowding at McCleary. They will be bought from the Scottsman-Williams Co. in Manassas, which submitted the lowest of nine bids.
