ALBERT K. LIPPMANN DIES OF CRASH INJURIES

Albert K. Lippmann, former president of the Roanoke Jewish Community Council and an accountant, died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an accident in Miami on Sunday. He was 82.

Lippmann was "devoted to fighting racial and religious discrimination," said Rabbi Frank Muller, who will conduct a memorial service 3 p.m. Sunday in Temple Emanuel Cemetery.

Lippmann headed the council from 1987-89 and also founded Roanoke Valley Together, an organization formed to eradicate religious and racial prejudices.

In 1982, Lippmann received the Humanitarian Award from the Roanoke Valley chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

He also served as the treasurer of the Southwest Virginia Opera Society.

Lippmann moved to Roanoke from New York in 1964 to take a job as vice president of Kenrose Manufacturing Co. Ten years later, he retired from the company to work as an accountant and consultant.

Oakey's Roanoke Chapel is handling the arrangements.
