BANK COMES THROUGH WITH GIFT TO GAMES
NationsBank's $25,000 gift to the 1993 Commonwealth Games of Virginia, formally announced Thursday at the bank's office in downtown Roanoke, probably won't be its last."It's the beginning of a long-term commitment," said Douglas Waters, regional commercial executive for the bank.
Waters said NationsBank is the "official bank sponsor" for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Regional marketing specialist Karen Colaw said the bank is contributing $40 million in cash to the '96 Games, $10 million per year beginning this year. Waters said high-visibility sponsorship of Virginia's state games, an Olympic-style festival held each summer since 1990, was natural.
"We just think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to support a very important event in the [Roanoke] valley," Waters said.
