RADFORD COUNCIL TO ACT ON '93-'94 BUDGET
City Council is scheduled to act on its proposed 1993-94 budget Monday night. An ordinance to adopt the budget is set for its first reading. The nearly $39.4 million plan represents an increase of about 9 percent.General fund spending will rise about 6 percent from this year, but city tax rates are expected to stay the same. Before acting on the budget ordinance, council will approve a tax-rate schedule. The proposed rates are the same as last year's.
Last Tuesday, the School Board unanimously agreed on a $7.4-million total 1993-94 budget figure, an increase of just over 1 percent from this year.
The board had to lop some $175,000 from its budget to meet available city money, which covers just over half of the school budget. Nearly all of the rest comes from state sources.
Also on Monday night's agenda is final approval of a $10,000 appropriation to help a local citizens' group pay for new aluminum seats at Radford High School's Bobcat Stadium.
Council also is expected to approve a $400 appropriation to purchase a drop box to collect utility bills.
