PARRY MCCLUER POUNDS WILDCATS

Carrie Coleman pitched a no-hitter and hot-swinging Stephanie Rhodes stretched her consecutive hits streak to 13 straight at-bats as Parry McCluer crushed Rockbridge County 22-0 in a non-district softball game Friday.

Coleman struck out eight and walked three as the Fighting Blues improved to 4-2. Rockbridge is 0-3.

Rhodes was 4-for-4 with seven runs batted in. Cristie Ayers was 3-for-4 and Heather Worley 2-for-3 for Parry McCluer.

\ BASEBALL: Norman Vest struck out 13 to lead unbeaten Rockbridge County to a 3-2 win over Parry McCluer in a non-district game. Davey Layton paced the Wildcats' offense, collecting three hits in four at-bats. Rockbridge is 3-0.

At Hillsville, Jason Kilbourne's suicide squeeze bunt brought home Tim Monday with the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting unbeaten Carroll County to a 1-0 non-district win over Floyd County.

The Cavaliers, who managed only two hits in the game, scored without a safety in the seventh. Monday reached on a leadoff walk, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. After a pair of walks, Kilbourne laid down a perfect bunt to plate Monday.

Steve Dalton, James Phillips and Brian Hawks combined on a five-hit shutout that dropped Floyd County to 3-2.

At Bedford, pitcher Bev Chaffin allowed only two runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate, leading Liberty to an 11-2 romp over Staunton River in a Seminole District game. Curt Goff had a two-run homer for the Minutemen (2-2, 2-2), while Mike Thompson was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Brian Hawkins homered for the Golden Eagles (1-3, 1-3).

At Forest, solo homers by Anthony Poindexter, Ryan Gilleland and Vince Whorley led to nine runs for Jefferson Forest (4-2) and two-hit pitching by Carter Lee helped shut out Appomattox (4-2) in a Seminole District game. Lee (1-0) struck out eight and Todd Stern went 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate.
