FRANKLIN COUNTY EDGES FLEMING 1-0 IN BASEBALL
Frank Bowles bested Greg Duncan in a pitching duel and Nicky Coleman's solo home run supplied the game's only score as Franklin County nipped William Fleming 1-0 in a Roanoke Valley District baseball game Friday at the Colonels' field.Bowles permitted five hits and struck out 10 as the Eagles improved to 3-0. Duncan also allowed five hits and fanned five. Fleming is 0-2.

At Hillsville, Jason Kilbourne's suicide squeeze bunt brought home Tim Monday with the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting unbeaten Carroll County to a 1-0 non-district win over Floyd County.
Steve Dalton, James Phillips and Brian Hawks combined on a five-hit shutout that dropped Floyd County to 3-2.
At Cave Spring, Will Goodman was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in as the Knights romped over Pulaski County 7-2. Billy Cole was 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI and Scott Fayed drove in two runs for Cave Spring (3-2 overall, 1-0 Roanoke Valley District). Pulaski County is 1-4, 1-2.
At Bedford, pitcher Bev Chaffin allowed only two runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate, leading Liberty to an 11-2 romp over Staunton River in a Seminole District game. Curt Goff had a two-run homer for the Minutemen (2-2, 2-2), while Mike Thompson was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Brian Hawkins homered for the Golden Eagles (1-3, 1-3).
At Forest, solo homers by Anthony Poindexter, Ryan Gilleland and Vince Whorley led to nine runs for Jefferson Forest (4-2) and two-hit pitching by Carter Lee helped shut out Appomattox (4-2) in a Seminole District game. Lee (1-0) struck out eight and Todd Stern went 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate.
