NAMES & CHANGES

Law firm names a new partner

DEBORAH A. OEHLSCHLAEGER has become a partner in the law firm of Plunkett & Logan, which has changed its name to Plunkett, Logan & Oehlschlaeger.

Formerly a partner with Woods, Rogers & Hazelgrove, Oehlschlaeger holds a law degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech.

Oehlschlaeger is a member of the Roanoke, Virginia and American Bar Associations and the Roanoke Valley and Ferrum College Estate Planning Councils.

Her practice will concentrate in the areas of business, estate planning, estate and trust administration, real estate and related matters.

COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

\ MYRL G. JONES, senior English professor at Radford University, has been named interim associate provost for the New College of Global Studies. A graduate of Texas Christian University, Jones holds a master's degree from West Texas State University and a doctorate from the University of Houston.

\ SHEILA LUSHER has been promoted from print coordinator to marketing assistant and production manager for National Business College's marketing group. She will manage production of all marketing materials, coordinate project deadlines, compile mailing lists and oversee daily direct mail responses for the college's eight campus locations.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The board of directors of the Roanoke Valley Economic Development Partnership has elected the following officers: president, JAMES M. YOUNG, a Salem attorney; vice president, DR. CHARLES DOWNS, president of Virginia Western Community College; secretary, ELMER HODGE, administrator of Roanoke County; treasurer, RANDOLPH SMITH, Salem city manager.

Appointed to the executive committee were: Hodge; Smith; Downs, representing the region's institutions of higher education; LEN BOONE, representing the Roanoke County business community; GERALD BURGESS, Botetourt County administrator; RICHARD CARLING, representing area chambers of commerce; RICHARD FLORA, Craig County administrator; LANIER FRANTZ, representing the Craig County business community; B. CLAYTON GOODMAN III, Vinton town manager; STANLEY HALE, representing the Roanoke business community; W. ROBERT HERBERT, Roanoke city manager; JESS NEWBERN, representing the Botetourt County business community; MACON SAMMONS, Franklin County administrator.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

\ A.W. BROWN of Roanoke has been appointed an investment vice president of J.C. Bradford & Co. in recognition of his 1992 sales performance.

HUMAN RESOURCES

\ ANNE L. LANDEY has received the designation of the Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resource Certification Institute, the research and credentialing affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management. She is the administrative manager at Magnetic Bearings Inc. in Roanoke.

INSURANCE

\ JON A. PACE has been named sales manager at Johnson & Higgins of Virginia. He will oversee new business developments in Virginia including Roanoke and the Blue Ridge region. He formerly worked for Alexander & Alexander.

MEDICINE

The board of directors at Wythe County Community Hospital has elected HOWARD N. AINSLEY chief executive officer. A vice president of Carilion Health Care System, which manages the 106-bed hospital, he has worked as an assistant administrator of the hospital and assistant vice president since 1987. He was previously an administrative intern at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, another affiliate of Carilion, and an assistant director at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington.

POULTRY

LARRY FRENCH, has been named controller of Wampler-Longacre Turkey, a subsidiary of WLR Foods based in Hinton. He will be responsible for the financial, cost and general accounting functions for all operations of the company. He will also serve as secretary/treasurer of Wampler-Longacre Turkey and its subsidiaries. An employee since 1984, he was most recently controller of Wampler-Longacre Turkey's Virginia operations.

UTILITIES

FRED DURHAM has joined Highland Propane Co., a Roanoke based distributor of propane gas and a subsidiary of Roanoke Gas Co., as a sales representative for Southwest Virginia. His territory will include Blacksburg, Pulaski, Hillsville, Marion, Galax, Wytheville and Saltville. He previously worked for E.L. Diamond Co., a heating and cooling contractor in Galax.
