PULASKI COUNTY FREE CLINIC 10 YEARS OLD
The Free Clinic of Pulaski County has been in existence for a decade, using volunteers to provide medical help to people who cannot afford it.Its president, Mary Ann Wine, said it served 619 people in 1990 and 797 in 1991, the most recent years for which figures were available. Most live in the town of Pulaski.
It has no paid positions. The physicians, pharmacists and nurses donate their time as do the clinic coordinator, pharmacy aide and clinic receptionist.
The clinic is open Thursday nights starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Pulaski County Health Department building after its offices close at 5 p.m.
Phil Sadler, a Pulaski lawyer, and Dr. Jack Knarr joined some local ministers in starting the clinic in 1983. It also serves as a screening and referral source for the community. All clients are screened for financial eligibility.
Pulaski Town Council recently passed a resolution honoring the clinic for its work.
"You all do an amazing amount of work with what you have to work with," Mayor Gary Hancock said.
