Ad director to speakRonald Irons, creative director and executive vice president of the Greensboro, N.C.-based Trone Advertising will speak at Virginia Tech on Thursday.

Volunteers needed
The Science Museum of Western Virginia's Youth Volunteer Program is seeking applicants for its summer session.
Volunteers are expected to donate 75 hours of service per semester. Duties include attending seminars, participating in field trips, serving as interpreters on the exhibit floor and assisting with general museum operations and maintenance.
Students, ages 14 and over, are eligible. Applications are available at the museum in downtown Roanoke's Center in the Square. The deadline is April 15. Call 342-5710.
Curator to speak
White House curator Rex Scouten will speak at Roanoke College's Sutton Center Ballroom on Thursday at noon. The luncheon presentation will cost $15.
Scouten began his career at the White House in 1957, when he moved from the Secret Service to become deputy to the White House chief usher. In 1966 he became assistant regional director for the White House and in '69, chief usher. He retired in 1986, but returned to the White House as curator later that year.

Book signing
Author Jeanne Larsen will discuss and sign copies of her books, "Silk Road" and "Bronze Mirror," on Monday night at 7 at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Library in Clifton Forge.
Larsen is a poet and translator of Chinese verse. She teaches writing at Hollins College.
