CHALLENGE SERIES AWAITS NEW RIVER, MARTINSVILLE DRIVERS
Drivers in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car division competing at New River Valley and Martinsville speedways will have a chance at winning $50,000 this season.A Challenge Series has been established by Doughton's Racing Parts and Camaro Junction. The money will be paid to any LMSC driver who can win six special 200-lap races.
Four of the races will be held at the .416-mile oval in Radford, while two others are on Martinsville's .526-mile track.
In addition, a $5,000 point fund will be divided at the end of the year among the top 10 drivers competing in the series, said Clay Campbell, promoter at NRVS and president of Martinsville.
Dates of the 200-lap races are May 15, June 26, July 17 and Aug. 7 at NRVS, and Sept. 25 and Oct. 31 at Martinsville.
More than 35 LMSC drivers have registered to compete at NRVS this season and more than 130 cars were entered in the first 200-lapper at Martinsville, which was snowed out in March. - Staff report
