BASEBALL-FERRUM'S WAGNER HURLS 1-HITTER

Billy Wagner pitched a one-hitter for Ferrum as the Panthers trounced Greensboro 18-0 in the second game of a doubleheader at Ferrum. Greensboro won the opener 5-0.

Wagner allowed three walks in seven innings in the second game as Ferrum racked up 20 hits and 18 runs - 13 before the first out in the first inning.

Jeremy Hill and Chris Holt batted in three runs each and Chad France and Jerold Smith batted in two apiece for the Panthers (15-4). Smith is now tied with Grant Renfro for first place on the Ferrum career RBI list with 140.

A single by Brian Forest scored pinch runner Mike Escudier with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Tulane a 5-4 victory over Virginia Tech and a sweep of a Metro Conference doubleheader at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans.

In the first game, The Green Wave rallied from a 4-1 deficit and scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on the way to a 7-5 victory over the Hokies.

Tulane is 12-19 overall, 3-2 in the Metro. Tech is 19-6, 3-2 in the Metro.

VMI swept a Southern Conference doubleheader from Western Carolina at Patchin Field in Lexington. The Keydets had a four-run fifth inning to overcome a 3-0 Western Carolina lead and pull out a 4-3 win in the first game. Billy Terry, Marlin Ikenberry and Brian Adams each singled in a run in the inning. Adams went 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead the Keydets in a 7-1 second-game win.
