CHILDREN'S BOOK WINS TOP HONORS
The Child Study Children's Book Committee at Bank Street College has selected Graham Salisbury's "Blue Skin of the Sea" as recipient of its annual Children's Book of the Year Award."Blue Skin of the Sea," published by Delacorte Press ($15), is the story of a boy growing to manhood in Hawaii. The boy comes to terms with his feelings about who he is - and about his father - as he gains understanding of island life and its heritage.
The Child Study Children's Book Committee is a 75-year-old non-profit organization that publishes lists of children's books including "Children's Books of the Year" ($5), "`Paperback Books for Children" ($3) and "Books to Read Aloud with Children Through Age 8" ($5).
"Children's Books of the Year" lists more than 600 titles selected from over 4,000 new books published in 1992. Arranged according to age and interest, the 1993 edition includes paperbacks, reprints and new editions of old favorites.
The volunteer committee is comprised of educators, librarians, authors, parents, psychologists, illustrators and specialists in various fields.
