FRONT ROYAL FIRE SERVICE HALVED BY BUDGET THREAT
The Front Royal Fire Department nearly halved its service because of threatened budget cutbacks, a move that could leave Warren County without professional fire and rescue service.Deputy Chief Mike Wines said he removed an ambulance, a ladder truck and a rescue unit from service Saturday afternoon and is considering cutting a fourth unit. The department ordinarily operates eight units.
The Fire Department requested $201,000 from the county next year, but the Board of Supervisors recommended a budget of $94,000 last week.
"We have to take them out of service. If not, we'll end up bankrupt," Wines said.
