OBIT RASNAKE, SILAS MCDONALD
RASNAKE, Silas McDonald, 66, of Dublin, died Sunday morning, April 11,
1993, in Radford Community Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II, having
served in the Air Force and the Navy. He was retired from Hercules, Inc. in
Radford as an instrument foreman. He was a member of Dublin Presbyterian
Church, serving as a former deacon and a former Sunday school superintendent.
He was a member of the Dublin Lions Club, serving as Past President, a member
of the board of directors and chairman of the Flea Market and Craft Show
Committees. Mr. Rasnake was a recent recipient of the "Melvin Jones Fellowship
Award," which is given to a select number of Lions for their dedicated and
humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. He was the
president of Dublin Recreation Corporation and coached little league baseball
and basketball for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Ann Hawley Rasnake;
two sons, Randy Rasnake of N. Ridgeville, Ohio, and Joe Rasnake and his wife,
Valerie of Dublin; two daughters, Donna R. Duncan of Blacksburg, Sandy R.
Burns and her husband, Charles of Bolingbrook, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. James S.
(Edith) Thompson of Radford; two nephews, James S. Thompson Jr. and Jeffrey
Thompson; one niece, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Bailey of Cleveland, Va. Also surviving
are eight grandchildren. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from the
Dublin Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Victor Scott and Rev. Manson
Tate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family
will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in
Radford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dublin Recreation
Corporation, Box 391, Dublin, Va. 24084. DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford is
in charge of arrangements.
