FDA PANEL APPROVES DEVICE TO EASE SURGERY

A new wiring system for cardiac defibrillators that can spare a patient open-chest surgery was endorsed Monday by a scientific advisory panel of the Food and Drug Administration.

The wire leads for the device called Endotak can be implanted in the abdomen. The device is made by Cardio Pacemakers Inc., a unit of Eli Lilly & Co.
