PREPS NORTHSIDE WINS DOUBLEHEADER OVER INDIANS

At Northside, Kelly Dampeer had five hits and five RBI as the Vikings swept Blacksburg in a baseball doubleheader. Northside won the first game 8-4 as Mark Freeland pitched a complete game, striking out eight. Dampeer went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI and Allen Christian added two hits, three runs scored and two RBI.

Starter Ben Taylor teamed with Jacob Hambrick and Dampeer on a 1-hitter as Northside won the second game 7-2.

At Daleville, William Fleming (1-3) won its first game under new coach Al Holland, Sr., by beating Lord Botetourt 9-8 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Cavaliers (2-1) won the second game 5-1.

Center fielder Eddie Jones homered and singled in two trips, scored twice and stole two bases to lead the way in the first game. Shortstop Al Holland, Jr., also homered and walked three times while catcher Marvin Brown went had two hits in four trips while driving in three runs.

Botetourt shortstop Shannon Williams countered with a home run and four RBI while first baseman Donnie Meador, who was 3-for-3 in the nightcap, homered in each game.
