GARDEN CLUBS GEAR UP FOR ORGANIZED TOURS

Area garden clubs have organized tours of some of the state's most beautiful gardens in celebration of the 60th Historic Garden Week in Virginia, Saturday through April 25.

The Blue Ridge Garden Club will lead folks through a six-stop tour of Lexington and Buena Vista sights April 20. The 10 a.m.-5 p.m. tour includes the Main Hall and Tracye House of Southern Virginia College and Kappa Alpha Order National Headquarters. Tickets are $10 or $3 single house admission, and are available at each home on the tour and at the Lexington Visitor Center, 463-3777.

A box lunch is also available for $6 at Southern Virginia College for Women's Main Hall, and prepaid reservations are required (call 261-8411).

The Warrenton Garden Club's tour will be held April 21-22 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. A tour of five Warrenton homes costs $12 or $3 for single house admission. Tickets are available at each home on the tour and at Warrenton's St. James Church. For information on group and bus tours, call 347-7347 or 347-1848.

A buffet lunch will be available for $9 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at St. James Church.

The Garden Club of Danville and Gabriella Garden Club will lead their tour of eight Danville sights April 22 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. The tour includes the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and Main Street United Methodist Church. Tickets, $8 or $3 single house admission, are available at each home on the tour and in advance at Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History Shop, (804) 799-5755.

Lunch will be served from noon-2 p.m. for $7; reserve seats by calling The Wednesday Club at (804) 791-1335.

The Roanoke Valley and Mill Mountain Garden Clubs tour will be April 24 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and will feature five South Roanoke homes and refreshments served from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Ronald McDonald House. Tickets are $12, $3 single house admission, and are available at each home on the tour and at the Roanoke Council of Garden Clubs. Continuous bus service will run to all homes. Lunch will be available ($6) from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at South Roanoke Methodist Church, 24th and South Jefferson streets.

Finally, the Halifax Woman's Club will sponsor a five-home tour of Halifax County sights April 24-25 from 1-6 p.m. The $6 ticket is available at each home on the tour or by calling (804) 476-6801, (804) 476-6457.
