OBIT PAYNE, LEONIDAS FRANKLIN

PAYNE, Leonidas Franklin ("Lefty"), 82, of 527 McCormick Blvd., Clifton Forge, died today at the Alleghany Regional Hospital. He was born in Roanoke June 28, 1922, a son of the late Ira Jerome Payne Sr. and Lena Alley Payne. He was retired from Virginia Electric & Power Company, and was a member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hayslett Payne, in 1967; and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Mary Catherine) Higgins, Clifton Forge; a son, Lonny F. Payne Jr., Millboro; one brother, Harris Lee Payne, Floyd; one granddaughter, Rita Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Bud Hall officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
