OBIT RAKES, WILLIAM HOWARD

RAKES, William Howard ("Bill"), 57, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, April 11, 1993, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a paint contractor in the Wythe County area for 40 years. He was also a member of the Wythe Bow Hunters, Virginia Bow Hunters, and the N.R.A. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard R. Rakes. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Marie Rakes; two daughters, Emily Frances Rakes of the home, Jamie Lee Patton of Rural Retreat; his mother, Mary Ann Rakes of Wytheville; three sisters, Emily Frances Helms of Bassett, Helen Margaret Hagee of Collinsville, Barbara Umbarger of Wytheville; two brothers, Hugh (Hugo) Rakes, Charles (Charlie) Rakes, both of Wytheville; 31 nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville and also at the Wythe Bow Hunters Club located on 21/52 North after the funeral. Flowers or donations may be sent to the home at Rt. 1, Box 484, Wytheville, Va. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
