ALLEN INTERESTED IN VANDY
Tennessee State's Frankie Allen, the Ohio Valley Conference men's coach of the year, has expressed an interest in the head basketball coaching job at Vanderbilt University.Allen said in Tuesday's editions of The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville that he was willing to listen if Vanderbilt wants to discuss with him the vacancy created when Eddie Fogler recently accepted an offer to coach at the University of South Carolina.
Fogler was The Associated Press' national coach of the year for the 1992-93 season.
Allen, who left Virginia Tech two seasons ago to take the Tennessee State position, declined to say if he had been contacted by Vanderbilt officials.
"My policy has always been not to discuss things like that in the media," said Allen, who took Tennessee State to its first NCAA Tournament berth this past season.
"I'm happy here [at Tennessee State] and I believe we have our program headed in the right direction," Allen said. "Vanderbilt has a great basketball program and a great tradition."
