PH STEALS 11-10 VICTORY IN BASEBALL
Jeremy Bailey stole third base and scored the winning run for Patrick Henry on an overthrow by the catcher as the Patriots slipped past Pulaski County 11-10 in a 10-inning Roanoke Valley District baseball game Tuesday in Dublin.Bailey stole four bases in the game. Teammate Kyle McMahon had a home run and a double and drove in two runs. Pitcher Dallas Keister also hit a double and had three RBI.
Patrick Henry is 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the district. The Cougars are 1-5 and 0-3.
In other baseball:
At Rocky Mount, Kevin Vineyard (3-0) went the distance and struck out six as Cave Spring dropped Franklin County 5-2 in Roanoke Valley District play. Will Goodman went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Knights (4-2, 2-0). Greg Perdue had two hits for Franklin County (3-1, 2-1).
At William Byrd, Kevin Saunders went 3-for-4 for the Terriers (5-0), who handled E.C. Glass 12-5. Chris Carr and Kenny Rickerson each had two hits, and pitcher Mike McGuire (2-0) allowed two hits and struck out six. E.C. Glass is 0-4. Northside travels to William Byrd to start Blue Ridge District play at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
At New Castle, after Narrows got two unearned runs in the top of the third inning, Craig County (1-6) came back with three earned runs in the bottom of the inning to win the non-district game 3-2. John Crawford's two-run double and Chris Blankenship's two-out single were the key hits.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Jeff Highfill scored three goals and Wallace Thompson had three assists as Radford defeated host Northside 5-4. For Northside (0-4-1), Aaron Curfiss scored two goals and J.J. Larsen had four assists.
At Buchanan, Charles Cunningham scored five goals and led Roanoke Catholic to an 11-2 non-district victory over host James River. Justin Thompson had three goals for the Celtics. Chuck Gilliland, Ryan McFadden and Mark Buchy scored the other goals. Michael Broughman and Isaac Minnis scored for James River.
\ SOFTBALL: At Buchanan, Kara Mundy was 4-for-4 with three RBI and Ambra Vines was 3-for-5 with a triple as James River (3-0) defeated Floyd County 11-6 in a non-district game. Sherry Allison ran her record to 3-0. The Buffaloes are 1-2.
At Breckenridge Middle School in Roanoke, Shantee Johnson had a solo homer as E.C. Glass (2-2) romped past William Fleming 14-1. Kelly Creasy's double drove in the only run for the Colonels (0-3).
