OBIT JOHNSTON, JAMES HUGH
JOHNSTON, James Hugh, 74, of Salem and formerly of Christiansburg, died
Tuesday, April 13, 1993, in a local hospital. He was a native of West
Virginia, and was a U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. Survivors
include his wife, Elsie Powers Johnston; two sons and one daughter-in-law,
James David "Buster" Johnston, Phillip D. and Joanne C. Johnston, and two
daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Cecil Ferguson, Lisa and Mark
Hollingsworth, all of Roanoke. Also surviving are one sister, Mareen Barlow,
Baltimore, Md.; and two grandchildren, Seth Hugh Johnston and Caroline
Hollingsworth, both of Roanoke. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m.
Thursday at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Burial will follow at
3:30 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive
friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends who wish to do
so, may make contributions to the Salem Rescue Squad or to the Serenity House
in Pilot, Va. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son, Salem.
