DAYTIME STARS AWAIT WORD ON EMMYS

Nominations for the 20th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced March 31 in New York City at Macy's Herald Square.

This year's presentation will be telecast May 26 from 9 to 11 p.m. from New York City's Marriott Marquis Hotel. Curt Gowdy Jr. will be the producer. This is the third time the Daytime Emmys will be broadcast as a prime-time television special.

The nontelevised Emmy Awards, primarily for creative arts categories, will be presented May 22 at an evening reception at the Red Lion Hotel in Glendale, Calif.

The nominees:

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Susan Lucci (Erica Montgomery, "All My Children"), Julia Barr (Brooke English, "AMC"), Linda Dano (Felicia Gallant, "Another World") and Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa Chamberlain, "Guiding Light"). This will mark Lucci's 14th try for the coveted Emmy in this category.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: David Canary (Adam/Stuart Chandler, "AMC"), Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe, "GL"), Mark Derwin (A.C. Mallet, "GL"), Robert S. Woods (Bo Buchanan, "One Life to Live"), A Martinez (Cruz Castillo, "Santa Barbara") and Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott, "The Young and the Restless").

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Jill Larson (Opal Cortlandt, "AMC"), Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine, "General Hospital"), Ellen Parker (Maureen Bauer, "GL"), Tonja Walker (Alex Olanov Hesser, "OLTL") and Kimberlin Brown (Sheila Carter, "Y&R").

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Charles Keating (Carl Hutchins, "AW"), Gerald Anthony (Marco Dane, "GH"), Kin Shriner (Scotty Baldwin, "GH"), Rick Hearst (Alan-Michael Spaulding, "GL") and Thom Christopher (Carlo Hesser/Mortimer Bern, "OLTL").

Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series: Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan, "AMC"), Beth Ehlers (Harley Cooper, "GL"), Melissa Hayden (Bridget Reardon, "GL"), Sydney Penny (B.J. Walker, "SB") and Heather Tom (Victoria Newman, "Y&R").

Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series: Matt Borlenghi (Brian Bodine, "AMC"), Dondre T. Whitfield (Terrence Frye, "AMC"), Bryan Buffinton (Billy Lewis III, "GL"), Monti Sharp (David Grant, "GL") and Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters, "Y&R").

Outstanding Drama Series: "All My Children," "As the World Turns," "Guiding Light" and "The Young and the Restless."

CBS's "Guiding Light" led the daytime drama category with 18 nominations. CBS's "Young and the Restless" had 13 nominations; NBC's "Another World" had 10; CBS's "The Bold and the Beautiful" had eight; CBS's "As the World Turns" had seven; ABC's "General Hospital" had five; and NBC's "Santa Barbara" had four.

This year, the actors to watch will be Ellen Dolan, who was involved in a powerful rape/HIV story line that helped the actress demonstrate her acting talents; Michael Zaslow (those running with him are all previous Emmy winners); Jane Elliot (who already announced she will be leaving "GH"), Dondre Whitfield and Kimberlin Brown.

Conspicuously absent from the Best Actor list is Jerry ver Dorn (Ross Marler, "GL"), an Emmy nominee in the past, but in years when he didn't have much of a story line.
