IN SCHOOL

DEANA COCHRAN, a learning disabilities teacher at Westside Elementary School of the Performing Arts, has been named outstanding learning disabilities teacher of the year by the Virginia Council for Learning Disabilities.

In addition to teaching, Cochran has published several educational articles. She received a Teachers Recognition Award in 1991-92 and was named this year's reading teacher of the year for Roanoke public schools.

MICHAEL GOFORTH, health teacher and athletic trainer at William Fleming High School, has been selected to serve on the alumni council of East Tennessee State University.
